Watercolor Brush Video Project

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of working with a local company, OOLY, on a few videos. One was to promote their products to help learn how to do calligraphy. The other two were to promote their watercolor paint brush sets. All three videos were shot in a single day.

We used our insert slate for each shot.
To achieve the look and feel they wanted, we created a small desk set at their office location in a conference room. Director Eric Addison and camera operator Brandon Plantz shot with 2 cameras – one mounted directly overhead and one capturing a profile view. Going through section by section, they shot each scene from overhead, getting the alternate angle when needed.

Camera op Brandon Plantz lines up the shot. The camera was mounted to a piece of speed rail directly overhead the desk set.

Director Eric Addison lines up what the frame will be for the shot.

We used some small LED lights to illuminate the desk set.
Once we got back to 100 Acre Films HQ, we started editing. It was there that we found the right music, added the sped up quality to many of the shots, and put everything together. The client had their art department create graphics to go over each of the shots, and we laid them in during editing. Patrick, the editor on these, did a great job at creating the two videos in Adobe Premiere Pro – our edit system of choice.

The folks at OOLY were a joy to work with, and we were very happy they chose us to help them create these videos. If there’s a video project you need help with, call us. As a San Diego video production company that’s been around for 15 years, we’re always looking for new stories to tell, and new people to tell them with. Call us if you have a story that needs to be told, or a product you want to share with the world.
