Patient Story Video

Throughout the year, there are many projects that we are proud to work on – all of them really. But some do hold a more special place in our hearts just because of the subject matter. And as we close out the year, we at 100 ACRE FILMS wanted to share with you one project we completed this past year that is extra special to us.

This past July, we went to Utah with our client to tell the story of Melody, her family, and her adorable daughter, Ruby. Melody was able to use a new technology from one of our clients that enabled her to know that her soon to be born daughter would have Downs Syndrome. This allowed her to properly prepare for the birth, and for the unique challenges that lay ahead. Ultimately, it’s a happy tale about how a family didn’t let this challenge slow them down, and how they are finding they can do things just like other families do.

Chris Francis, the DP for the project, worked with a local hired crew over a two day shoot to get all the footage. Having just acquired a Canon C200, all the footage was captured in Canon Raw at 4K. The crew spent a full day with the family at their home getting family b-roll and interviews. The second day was spent capturing shots of the family hiking and at the doctor’s office.

Once back at 100AF HQ, we started editing. The client provided a script based on transcripts we had created from the interviews. The post-production on this was accelerated as the client wanted to share the video within two months at a company meeting, so work on it began right away. Eric Addison, the editor for the project, worked through about 4-5 different versions before finally getting picture lock from the client. Brian Hutchings did a color grade on the video, and he did his usual amazing work.

This type of video is why we love our job. Telling inspirational stories – ones that reveal how people overcome limitations, don’t let fear or their situation dictate how they’ll live, and ones the just make you feel good is why we show up to the office every day. We hope this story touches you the same way it did us. Let us know in the comments what you think.

As we wrap up this year, if there’s a story like this you’d like us to help you tell in 2019, please let us know. 100 ACRE FILMS exists to tell interesting, engaging, educational, and emotional stories. As one of San Diego’s longest working video production companies, we love finding creative voices to share, innovative stories to tell, and new partners to work with. If you have a project your looking at creating in the new year, please contact us. We’d love to work with you.

Happy New Year from everyone at 100 ACRE FILMS!
